A. Definition of Appreciation
Appreciation is etymologically : " appreciatie " ( Netherlands ) , " appreciation" ( Ing ) , according to the English dictionary , " to appreciate " , that is forms a verb meaning : to judge the value of ; understand or enjoy fully in the right way ( Oxford ) , to estimate the quality of ; to estimate rightly ; to be sensitively aware of ( Webster ) .
In general appreciation for art or appreciate works of art means , understand fully the intricacies of art and something to be sensitive to the aesthetic aspects . Appreciation can also mean sharing experience between audience and artist , and some have added , enjoy tantamount to re-create . The main objective is to make the delivery of public appreciation of art " art literacy " so that it can properly mencrima art . With these words a more complete appreciation is perceiving activities ( capture the senses ) , respond to , live up to the judge something ( in this case the work of art ) .
Art appreciation activities or appreciate works of art can be interpreted as an attempt to understand the variety of art with all its problems and occurs more sensitive to aesthetic values contained therein . Appreciate the work of art is important because it will make life more enjoyable
, happy , healthy . Imagine , what if there are people who are not able to
completely enjoy the works of art ( in the broad sense , including art beyond
art ) . In everyday life , it consciously or not , people do appreciate on some
level : watch exhibition , listen to music , watch movies on TV , choose the
fabric pattern and so on .
B. Appreciation steps
In analyzing and responding to works of art in general there are two ways of
doing this , is by using a subjective measure , it means a great judge whether
or not based on his own judgment , for example, the work is very good or
beautiful because we view art is very nice . Assessment with objective measures
means , assess whether or not good art on the basis of the size of reality and
objects ( works of art ) itself . If his work has objectively good measure ,
then we say good . And vice versa . Each work of art must have characteristics
, which differ from each other .
Reveal the characteristics of two -dimensional works of art is different from
the work of art that is three -dimensional . Characteristics of two-

Art appreciation can be done by various methods or approaches as follows :
1 . applicative approach

and appreciation of the uniqueness of the work in terms of techniques,
materials , etc. . Through the work of art , we can feel the various
